Piran, the most beautiful seaside city

Piran is the most beautiful Slovenian seaside city. There are two more bigger cities that are worth to visit it – Portorož and Koper. However, Piran is nice to visit in every season. Also in winter you can take a walk and enjoy the sea air.

How to come to Piran?

Piran is about 120km from the capital Ljubljana. By car you need 1 hour and half. You can take a bus from Ljubljana and it will take 2 hours or 2 hours and half. The cheapest and the fastest bus company is Arriva, the one way ticket is 11.10 EUR or return ticket up to 30 days is 19.98 EUR. Or you can take combined ticket, by train to Koper and from Koper to Piran by bus. The Koper train station is connected to the bus station. I recommend you to get any discount for train like Tourist Weekend Offer where you get 30% off fares for return journeys on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Between Portorož and Piran you can find free public bus.

Top 5 things to do in Piran and Around

  • Explore the city and the old castle

It is old port town with remnants of a medieval wall. I highly recommend to take a walk to the medieval wall and enjoy the view over sea all over around. Take a drink in the main square, Tartini Square, in the center of Piran.  It was named after violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini. On the square his monument was made in 1896.

  • Visit the most beautiful beach of the Slovenian seaside

The Slovenian coast is about 40 km long. There are many beaches but for me one of the most beautiful is Mesečev zaliv. You need to walk down the hill to the beach (about 15 minutes) but it is worth it.

There you can also visit the observation in nature. At the end you can relax at the unique outdoor spa centre Lepa Vida Thalasso Spa at the Piran Saltpans.

  • Try the best icecream in the Cacao Portorož

Portorož is a seaside city, close to the Piran. Between Piran and Portorož you can leave a car, now there are free parking. In the early spring many Slovenians come there for a walk and coffee or icecream. So you have to try the best icecream in the cafe Cacao.
