Vogel is a fairytale at the 1535m altitude with the amazing views over Lake Bohinj and Alps. It is located in the southeastern part of the Julian Alps in the area of the Triglav National Park.
How to come to the Vogel?
You can access it by cable car. At first you have to reach the lower Vogel cable car station by foot, by car, by free Bohinj bus or by Bohinj tourist boat. You can leave the car at the free parking area.
The cable car was constructed in 2001. The speed of it is 9m/s so in 4.2 minutes you can make 956m of the height difference.
What to do there?
Vogel is big ski center. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t visit it during summer. It is green area with amazing view over Lake Bohinj and Alps. From there you can start any shorter or longer hiking tour. You can also hire a mountain guide. You can decide for the Zadnji Vogel (1413 m) pasture which is easy and interesting path of the Bohinj Cheese Trail. Duration of this walk is 30 minutes. There you can taste or buy cheese, cottage cheese and sour milk made at the pasture in the traditional way.
On the other hand you can just sit in the restaurant Viharnik, enjoy the view and try delicious home-made dishes. There is also a children’s playground, the labyrinth of power and some wooden animals like bear, owl and capricorn.

Lake Bohinj is green oasis where you can relax your soul, swim and try your sup. It is the largest natural lake in Slovenia, nested in the heart of the Julian Alps. It is 4100 m long, 1200 m wide and 45 m deep.
Panoramic Boat Tour on Lake Bohinj
You must to take a panoramic Boat Tour on the Lake Bohinj. It takes 30 minutes and it is worth to visit. You can take a tour Ribčev Laz-Ukanc or Ukanc-Ribčev Laz. I highly recommend you to take one way tour and take a walk back and enjoy in the views. If you’ll get tired, you can take a free bus shuttle. One way ticket for adult is 9 EUR and for child from 7-14 years old is 6.5EUR.
Bohinj Cycling tour
You can make a cycling tour Bohinjska Bistrica – Brod – Ribčev Laz – Stara Fužina – Studor – Srednja vas. There is a unique cycle track, well marked with gorgeous views over Sava Bohinjka river. It is easy tour, also suitable for family cycling trips.
It is the third most visited attraction Around Slovenia. You can go there by car to the parking place at the Savica Hut (the parking for car is 4 EUR for 3 hours) or you can take a free shuttle bus during summer. From parking to the Savica waterfall it takes about 20 minutes by easy walk. The entrance fee for adults is 3 EUR and for children from 7 to 14 years of age is 1.5 EUR.
Vogar is a popular hiking point on 1054m altitude. You can reach it from Stara Fužina. There are two viewpoints over Lake Bohinj.
