First half of things to do in Slovenia

Slovenia is green country, on one side there is Adriatic sea, on the other side are high Alps and in the heart of this special small country you can find a lot of beautiful places. There are a lot of things to do in Slovenia, I will present 50 of them.

1.Go up to Ljubljana castle with the funicular

Ljubljana is the capital of the Slovenia. On the hill over Ljubljana you can find the castle and from there is beautiful view around all Ljubljana. You can reach it by funicular or by foot. If you take funicular it costs 4 EUR for return ticket or 3 EUR for seniors, students and children (7-18 years). In the castle you can take any of the guided tours or just take the drink at the castle yard.

2.Drink a coffee with the view on the top of Intercontinental hotel or in the Skyscraper in Ljubljana

In the capital you can take something to eat or drink on the top of the Intercontinental hotel on the 20th floor or on the top of Skyscraper with the beautiful view over Ljubljana.

3. Walk through Tivoli park

In Ljubljana there is very nice and popular park named Tivoli. During summer people like to relax, do sports or just walk there. From the Tivoli park you can hike to the hill Rožnik, it would take around half an hour. On the Rožnik you can relax in the nature and something eat or drink.

4. Take the boat to the Bled island

Lake Bled is one of the Slovenian pearl. In the middle of the lake there is island with the church. There you can make a wish by ringing the wish bell. The price for the boat to the Bled island and back is 12 EUR. You can explore the lake Bled alone and rent a boat for 15EUR per hour.

5. Eat the Bled cream cake (kremšnita)

The cream cake (Slovenian kremšnita) is very delicious dessert, typically for Bled.

6. Enjoy at lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is the largest natural lake in Slovenia. In the lake you can swim, boat ride, wind surf, fish, dive or just relax with the perfect view over Julian Alps.

7. Take the cable car to the Mt. Vogel

Vogel is ski center 1535m above sea level which is interesting all over the year. You can come up throughout the year by cable car. The price for return cable car ticket is 20 EUR for adults, 10 EUR for children and 17 EUR for youth – students and seniors.

8. Admire waterfall Savica

A spectacular waterfall Savica is close to the Bohinj lake and it is divided into two parts. It is very popular attraction in Slovenia. To the waterfall you have to walk 20-25 minutes on the stone steps easy walk. The entrance fee is 3 EUR for adults. There is also hiking starting point for different trails.

9. Discover Postojna and Škocjan caves

Two very popular and interesting caves in Slovenia are Postojna cave and Škocjan cave. You can take 90 minutes an adventure around Postojna cave where you can see five meters tall bright-white stalagmite called Brilliant and meet the baby dragons. The price for Postojna cave tour in the low season is 25,80EUR, in the high season (23.12.2019-3.1.2020) is 27,90EUR.

Within Škocjan caves you can take tour through the underground canyon, following the Reka river underground or along the Škocjan education trail.

10. Experience the unforgettable fairytale in Predjama castle

Close to the Postojna cave you can find Predjama castle which is the world’s largest cave castle entered in the Guinness World record. There you can walk through the medieval fairytale and become a knight for a day.

11. Take a walk along the trails of the mining stories

In the past the region Zasavje (3 cities: Trbovlje, Zagorje and Hrastnik) was known for industry, specially for mining. Now you can walk along the trails of the miners or you can just visit virtual mining museum 4. dritl.

12. Sweeten up with Trojane doughnuts

Close to Zasavje at the highway you can reach Trojane where you can try very good and big doughnuts. You can choose between typical doughnuts filled with jam or with vanilla cream fill, covered with chocolate and coconut.

13. Sunbathe at the Slovene coast

Slovene coast is long about 43 km and there are the most known cities Portorož, Piran, Koper and Izola. There you can stay in any of luxury hotels, sunbathe at any of the beach or just take a walk and relax at the seaside.

14. Learn about the salt-making procedure in Sečovlje Salina nature park

In Sečovlje you can book a guided tour and learn the procedure how to get the salt. You take 2 km long walk in 1 hour and half and learn about its tradition. There you can also decide for 3 hours bird watching program.

15. Hike in the magical Alps

When you want to choose the things to do in Slovenia, on one side you can jump in the Adriatic sea or on the other side you climb to 2,864m high Triglav which is the highest mountain in Slovenia. Normally you can hike to the lower mountains and hills. Very popular trails are in the Triglav national park.

16. Go on breathtaking Velika planina

Velika planina is a breathtaking plateau in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, on the average altitude 1500m. There you can walk through the Herdsmen’s settlement, eat typical slovenian dishes and rent a cottage. To the up you hike or take the cable car. During summer or winter you can choose between a lot of magical activites.

17. Ski in fairytale Kranjska gora & fly over the ski jumping hill Planica

Kranjska gora is winter sport center where you find very popular ski slopes. There you can experience different winter and adrenaline activites or relax in any wellness or try your luck in casino. Close to Kranjska gora you can reach ski jumping hills Planica where you can fly over the giant Planica hill by zipline.

18. Relax at the lake Jasna

Close to Kranjska gora you reach the crystal clear lake Jasna. Around lake you can walk on nice trails, you can swim in the lake or just relax and take a drink with green view over Alps. Finally do not forget to take the photo beside the bronze capricorn.

19. Walk through the fairytale Vintgar gorge

About 4km from the Bled you reach really impressive Vintgar gorge where you can walk through the fairytale on the wooden bridges. There is interesting study trail which ends with the river waterfall Šum. The entrance to the Vintgar for adults is 10 EUR, for students 6 EUR and for kids (6-15 years) is 3EUR. The Vintgar gorge is closed from December to April.

20. Ride with the museum train along the Bohinj branch line

A steam-powered museum train takes you through Alpine landscape, past the Bled and Bohinj lakes, the most beautiful Soča river and by wine growing villages Goriška Brda to the karst landscape of the Kras region. The three-hour-long train ride is accompanied by guides and animators. The next forseen departure is on 2nd of May 2020.

21. Drink a glass of wine in Brda

Brda is the landscape cultivated with vineyards and orchards. There you can find a lot of farmhouses and the largest Slovenian wine cellar Goriška Brda. There you can try different wines which satisfies various tastes and needs. In Brda you can spend an active holidays.

22. Discover the Slovenian friendly countryside

In Slovenia you can find a lot of tourist farms with different experiences. On the farms you can sleep, know the typical dishes and learn how to cook its, relax in wellness and keep the all kinds of animals.

23. Make an unforgettable day with white Lipizzan horses

Lipica is an equestrian park with more than 300 white Lipizzan horses. Visit the stud farm and meet with the beautiful friends. There you can decide for riding a horse or carriage ride. Attend official training with Lipizzan horses and meet the future stars of Lipica.

24. Relax in any of Slovenian spas and health resorts

At the half of the list of the things to do in Slovenia I decide to share love because sLOVEnia is the only country with love in the name. In Špičnik on the north of Slovenia you can find the heart shaped road in the middle of the vineyards.
